Trinity Concert Series 2009-2010

Welcome to the Trinity Fine Arts Concert Series for 2009-2010! These extraordinary concerts and events have become a tradition at Trinity and we welcome every member, and every member of the community, to attend. The concerts and events range from children’s musicals to professional concerts by the likes of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Music ranges from the traditional to jazz.

The mission of the Trinity Concert Series is to share God’s great gifts of music and the arts with the congregation and community for inspiration, education, and the renewal of the spirit. St. Croix Concert Series, Amarcord

Known for their purity of pitch, vocal color, and blend as well as their charm and humor, amarcord is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles. Founded in 1992, all five singers are alumni of the Thomanerchor – Boys Choir of St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where J.S. Bach was the cantor and whose famous choir dates back to 1212. VocalEssence -  Welcome Christmas
Sat., Dec. 12 – 7:30 p.m.
A beloved Twin Cities holiday tradition, the annual VocalEssence Welcome Christmas concert celebrates the season with the glittering melodies of choral composer extraordinaire John Rutter. For more than three decades, Rutter’s festive carols, including “What Sweeter Music,” have provided the ideal soundtrack for the holiday season. To love or to disdain: a Spanish seduction, English laments, Italian passion and French courtly love.
Les Voix humaines presents Amour Cruel, a menu of love songs and virtuoso instrumental pieces with flavors from Spain, France, Italy and Holland. District 834 Elementary Chorus & the Valley Chamber Chorale
A Cool Celebration of Song
Thu., Feb. 11 – 7 p.m.; Free
The Valley Chamber Chorale will contribute a staged performance of "The Reluctant Dragon" with music by John Rutter. The elementary choir will show us what they have been doing over the past six weeks of rehearsal. This is a concert for all ages.

St. Croix Concert Series Parker String Quartet
Feb. 26 – 7:30 p.m.
The New York Times calls the Parker String Quartet, winner of Concert Artists Guild’s 2005 Competition, “something extraordinary.” Formerly from Boston, the Parker Quartet was selected in September 2008 as one of the first string quartets for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Young Artists Program. St. Paul Chamber Orchestra

Artistic Partner Roberto Abbado continues a survey of Schumann in the composer’s 200th anniversary year with the overture to his rarely performed opera Genoveva and his Second Symphony. St. Croix Concert Series, Claremont Trio

Widely regarded as the premier piano trio of its generation, the Claremont Trio is sought after for its thrillingly virtuosic and richly communicative performances. First winners of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award and the only piano trio ever to win the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the Claremonts are consistently lauded for their “aesthetic maturity, interpretive depth, and exuberance” (Palm Beach Daily News). To celebrate their 10th anniversary season, the trio returns to New York’s Carnegie Hall and Washington D.C’s Kennedy Center, and appears in more than 60 halls throughout the country. St. Paul Chamber Orchestra
Thu., April 15 – 8 p.m.
Celebrated conductor and violinist Thomas Zehetmair brings a program that pairs the modern and the Classical with pieces from two Viennese schools. The Late-Classical Vienna is represented by Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and Schubert’s final symphony, Unfinished, and the Early-20th-Century Vienna is showcased with gems by Krenek and Webern. St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Cantus
Thu., May 20 – 8 p.m.
Beloved Twin Cities male vocal ensemble Cantus joins the SPCO in this program celebrating Schubert. Song of the Spirits over the Waters is an evocative piece that demonstrates why Schubert is considered the great songwriter of the early Romantic period.
